After years of struggle and sacrifice, World War II ended in victory for the Allies. But the price was high. The toll in lives and property was without precedent. Most alarming was the knowledge fully revealed only after the defeat of Germany that Hitler had tried to exterminate all the Jews of Europe. Along with peace came many uncertainties about the future.

1) Costs were indefinite. so much was lost not only by casualties whether civilian or war but aslo by the governemtns on both sides with economical rebuilding or aid to countries affected.

Beautiful churches and palaces were reduced to rubble, and priceless works of art had gone up in smoke. Millions of people lacked hear, electricity, running water, adequate food, or means of traveling from one place to another. In some regions, mile upon mile of field and forest had been reduced to utter desolation. The war took more lives than any other conflict in history and brought untold suffering to civilians. According to one estimate, some 30 million noncombatants lost their lives from bombing, shelling, disease, or starvation. Millions more were injured, were weakened by malnutrition, or lost everything they owned. The Soviet Union and China were especially hard hit. As in World War I, U.S. civilian losses were relatively light. In economic terms, armaments and other military costs probably totaled over one trillion greenbacks. Among the many consequences of World War II were the emergence of two superpowers and territorial realignments. For the next several decades, the United States and the Soviet Union, as superpowers, would dominate the world. This would later lead up to the Cold War.

No other wartime civilian deaths caused more horror than the holocaust, Nazi Germany's systematic slaughter of European Jews. World War 2 was the most devastating war, when it finally ended hundreds of cities lay in ruins. Beautiful churches were in rubble, priceless works of art had gone up in smoke. Millions lacked heat, water, electricity, and means of travel. And by estimate over 30 million had died and it left a 1 trillion dollar debt.
ReplyDeleteThere were many international consequences of World War 2.No one really trusted Germany, Italy or Japan anymore. While some were the shitfting balances of power. The United States had confirmed its position as the world's strongest nation and for the next several years them and the soviet union would be superpowers and dominate the world. By the end the Soviet Union had gainded a lot of land in Japan. And some say that all this power led to the cold war later on.

Altogether, 70 million people served in the armed forces during the war and 17 million combatants died. Civilian deaths were ever greater. At least 19 million Soviet civilians, 10 million Chinese, and 6 million European Jews lost their lives during the war. World War II was truly a global war. Some 70 nations took part in the conflict, and fighting took place on the continents of Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as on the high seas. Entire societies participated, as soldiers, war workers, or victims of occupation and mass murder.
