When war enveloped Europe, the United States tried to remain neutral. In 1917, however, the U.S. joined the Allied cause. The government quickly moved to mobilize the economy and to build public support for the war. (Watch the following video links below)

1) They US tried to remain neutral because we traded goods with both countries. Only shipping routes to Germany crossed the North Sea. Great Britain controlled that part. Britian started to attack our ships. Yet, the German started a submarine war.
ReplyDelete2) To do stuff on your own. Like growing food, making clothes, and cutting back on other areas. To help anyway they and we can.
3) By cutting back on costly things. This is important because it will help with the economy and troops over seas.
The US tried to remain nuetral because of the great distance between Europe and America. Also we had trade with both sides of the conflict. We joined because of the threat of Germany sinking all merchant ship with in a submarine zone.
ReplyDeleteSome things that were done included propaganda posters, and speakers. Also victory gardens, meatless mondays, and restriction on achohol and other nonessential goods were places. More people were highered in factories.
They used speakers in towns, posters, radio shows. Also they had people endorse items to gain the support of the American people.
The United States tried to remaing neutral because they traded with both the Central Powers and the Allied powers. We joined the war because we had to draw the line when Germany started to sink our merchant ships.
ReplyDeleteThe government did start to call on the United States people to start conserving our resources in order that we would have more food, coal, and other assorted supplies for the war. I would have the government to pass laws that would help companies that supply resources for the war.
The government started mobilizing public support by having people speak out about the atrocities of Germany. They also started printing ads about the number of people that were dying because of Germany. This is important because if there is not suppor for the war then people won't want to give up our resources. This would cause unrest at home if we did try to fight. When there is public support more people are willing to sign up for the cause.

Only days later, in an attempt to neutralize any opposition from France, Germany moved its forces through Belgium to strike the French nation. As a result of the German invasion of Belgium, Great Britain quickly sided with France to prevent Germany from accessing the French coastline from Belgium.
As war raged in Europe, President Woodrow Wilson argued that the United States should remain neutral in this conflict, urging Americans to be “impartial in thought as well as in action.” Given the distance between the United States and Europe, Americans readily embraced Wilson’s neutral stance. Although approximately one-third of American citizens had been born in Europe or were children of European immigrants, most were relieved to stay out of the conflict.

Even as America prepared for war, the country remained split over the prospects of sending American troops to fight the nations that comprised the Central Powers. In an attempt to unify the nation, the Wilson administration undertook a remarkable propaganda campaign to sway American opinion toward intervention in the European conflict. The centerpiece of this campaign was the Committee on Public Information, also known as the Creel Committee. As a part of the American government’s propaganda effort to bolster public support for the war, the Committee on Public Information established powerful anti-German sentiment in the U.S. As a result, Americans rejected all things German, including German music, literature, and food. Some American citizens readily reported, without factual knowledge, spying and sabotage in the U.S. by German agents.
We tried to remain neutral because of our trade with both sides of the conflict. We joined the war because both the Allies and the Central Powers were threating U.S. lives. So we joined the war, and picked to join the Allies.
ReplyDeleteThey can influence the nation's opinion of the war. They can also encourage "Wheatless Wednesdays" and "Meatless Mondays', and other programs like them to increase the goods able to be shipped to the soldiers.
The Government could also keep the rate for goods from raising or dropping. They also could pass Acts and arrest people that didn't support the War.

3) To mobalize public support, the government uses propaganda to motivate the citizens and to make them hate the enemy. That way there is no resistance against the war effort. Because a house dived against itself cannot stand.
The United States tried to remain neutral because we had common trade with both sides and did not want to jepordize our trading routes. However we ended up joining the war because Germany had threatened to sink our ships that passed their there territory.
ReplyDeleteSome things that a government does to mobilize a nations economy to meet a national emergency include the usage of propaganda, posters that attract peoples attention and hiring more people to work in factories.
A government might also mobilize public support by hiring public speakers to talk, or famous people. This is important because you can not go to war with out having the support of your country behind you.

1.)Wilson thought that by taking a neutral stance, the United States might help negotiate a settlement to the conflict. He pursued this goal throughout 1915 and 1916, but without success. The reason the Americans joined the war was because Britain, who controlled the span of the North Atlantic Ocean, refused to allow American goods to be shipped to Germany and declared all cargo in neutral waters to be contraband. Britain then began seizing U.S. goods.

In fact, union membership had nearly doubled to three million by the war’s end. Congress passed the Sedition Act of 1918. The Sedition Act made it illegal to speak against the purchase of war bonds or to “utter, print, write or publish any disloyal, profane, scurrilous or abusive language” against the U.S. government or the Constitution. I think that somehow we needed to bring our nation closer to fight together.
3.) They might have used the Newspapers to get word out to get supported on the war. This is important because without the support of the people alot of things could go wrong. The people could rebel against the leader if they dont like what that person is doing.

Following the assassination, the Austrian-Hungary government (backed by Germany) and Serbia (strongly backed by Russia) entered into what became an intricate chain of political confrontations. Within less than a month, two coalitions emerged—the Central Powers, which primarily consisted of Germany and Austria-Hungary, and the Allied Powers, which included France, Russia, and Great Britain.

U.S. had a strong trade from both side and citizen had been born in Europe or chilren of Europian immigrants.that's why they didn't come in the war. but this situation did not going well.Both side threaded trading ship so U.S. needs to take a side.
