Although World War II was fought on the battlefields of Europe, Asia, and North Africa, American farms and factories also helped win the war. As the United States mobilized its resources for combat, the entertainment industry helped sustain morale. For Japanese Americans the war resulted in confinement in remote camps. For African Americans, Mexican Americans, and women, the conflict brought both new opportunities and reminders that discrimination and inequality still existed in American society. (p. 407, 16.2)

1.) The leaders agreed not to organize strikes during the war. There was alot of production. The U.S. became the Allies' biggest armaments supplier. There was also government expansion, directing the economy, and raising an army.

1.) The U.S. started manufacturing tanks,guns, ammunition, planes,and ships. We also started building an army that would be prepared and ready to go to war if needed.

3.) They were allowed to fight, and they were good fighters. The Tuskeegee Airmen were african American and they were good pilots.
Many factories were changed into military factories in a short time. Union leaders also helped the war cause by agreeing not to strike during the war. War plants began to produce millions of planes, tanks, jeeps, and guns. Thousands of ships were built in order to supply the need. Farms also began to supply more in order to produce more food.

The Fair Employment Practices Committee was formed that investigated companies to make sure that they were not being discriminate when they hired employees. Many Mexicans and blacks were hired as factory workers during the war.

Congress announced that it sought "a Navy second to none," and doubled the tonnage of combat vessels two years later. The nine battleships and eleven Essex class aircraft carriers that were part of that build-up, however, were not commissioned until 1943. By the summer of 1941, the military draft contributed to the 1.2 million men in the U.S. Army.

1) The US moblized to fight in World War II by creating a draft. The Selective Service System expanded the draft and eventually provided another 10 million soldiers. Also the US created a Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, which opened up the chance to women to join the army.

We mobilized for war by getting citizens to sign up to enter the war as soldiers. We also mobilized the industry to make weapons, and the women to take some of those jobs, and some as soldiers.
ReplyDeleteThey were interned because americans feared them, they thought they were spies. They also wanted to harm them, even if they were innocent.
The mexican americans and the african americans got better-paying jobs in the industry. They also were trusted more, because the japanese americans were being treated poorly and weren't being trusted.
