
After the Civil War was over, many African Americans had a number of different issues they had to over come.

1)After the war the government passed the thirteenth amendement, which meant no one could have slaves. Yet they still found loop holes and still gave blacks not the same rights. So they came up with the "black codes". So if they volated the codes they would be punished.

1) The Black Codes were laws passed on the state and local level in the United States, but mostly in the south, to limit the basic human rights and civil liberties of black....they were an improvement over slavery, the codes identified blacks as a separate class with fewer liberties and more restrictions than white citizens.

Some said blacks couldn't serve on a jury, couldn't vote. They had strict labor provisionss, each year they had to sign a labor contract, if they broke the contract they could be severely punished.

well of cource the video is about the african american and that the south didnt wanted to change the power or life style and the blacks code says that the blacks cant do anything or if they do it they will be fined or be sent to a chain gane. so what im trying to throw down here is that the blacks didnt have alot of rights back in the days after the war

1- They were designed to restrict the freedom of blacks. These laws would help guarentee a steady labor suply for southern planters. They aslo said that blacks could not serve on a jury, vote, rent or lease land, and couldn't carry a firearm unless they had a liscense.

Black Codes were laws for African Americans like they couldnt hold meatings unless whites were present. they could not travel with out permits or guns.In New Orleans they couldnt be out after 10:00, just one hour later than the previous slave cerfew.But because whites were desperate to make former slaves return to feirld work, some codes required freedpeople to sign a labor contract.
