When war enveloped Europe, the United States tried to remain neutral. In 1917, however, the U.S. joined the Allied cause. The government quickly moved to mobilize the economy and to build public support for the war. (Watch the following video links below)

1. We stayed neutral at first because we had alot of immagrants from both sides of the war. We also traded aot with both the Central and Allied Powers. We joined the war because German U-Boats sunk the Lusitania.

3. A governement should talk to its people and be completly honest and show the positives of the war. It's important to have the people backing you up so you don't have two wars. One with Germany and one with the Government and the people.

1)We had strong trade with nations on both sides of the war. Because they trade with the countrys was stopped so we had to choose a side in order to keep the trade going.

3.the Committee on Public Information established powerful anti-German sentiment in the U.S. As a result, Americans rejected all things German, including German music, literature, and food. Some American citizens readily reported, without factual knowledge, spying and sabotage in the U.S. by German agents.

3. A government might set up propaganda against their enemies, if people in your country are feeling sorry for your enemies, you won't gain much support.

ReplyDeleteAs the war went one, citizens continued to think that we should be neutral, but many couldn’t actually be neutral because of family ties in the other countries. The United States had at that time almost 30% immigrants, so it was difficult to see ourselves fighting possibly relatives.
2.Possibly we could act as was done during other Wars. We went without so the most of our resources would go overseas to help. The war as a whole made all citizens ready to give up, and take less to help others. People went without basics, and these days we have a lot of extras we could easily give up without even touching the basics of food and housing. People had a central point of view to make the country better for all, and this was accomplished. Women went to work in ordinance plants and helped build planes, the men were fighting the war.
3.The government would have to be careful not to glamorize the war, but at the same time remind us all to be proud of our country and the fight we were fighting was for us all, and for others to keep us free and others as well. There were many posters and political cartoons stressing us all to be proud, ex., buying bonds, rationing sugar and gasoline. They would have to keep us all united which today would be a lot harder than it was back then.
1- The U.S.had trade strong with both sides in the war and 1/3 of most americans originated from eurpe.Germany established a submarine war zone around the British Isles.

He also asked Americans to plant “victory gardens,” small gardens that in backyards and empty lots, to help make Americans more self-sufficient and less dependent on the national food supply.
3- The government made posters to tell what the central power were doing. They also appointed a committee to give deliver pro-American addresses in public places.
1-we stayed neutral because we had strong trading economies with countries on both sides of the war and didnt want to lose those. but we were forced into the roll because both sides werent allowing the trades to happen and when the german U-boats sunk your ship, the war was on!
ReplyDelete2-use propaganda to all but force people to reduce food and fuel useage. things like meatless mondays and wheatless wednesdays were what helped the US fund the war.
3-propaganda was huge. it only showed the bad in a bad country or the good in a good one.
because we were still sending items to both sides of the war.
