Theodore Roosevelt was the first progressive president of the United States. Taking office after the assassination of President William McKinley, Roosevelt was elected in his own right in 1904. During his two terms as president, he promoted the regulation of big business and helped preserve natural resources for future generations.

3) The FDA maintains government inspection of foods, and doesnt allow the dealings with harmful foods and drugs.

ReplyDelete2. Roosevelt put in many acts to stop corruption such as the Elkins Act, forbade shippers from accepting rebates, the Hepburn Act, authorized the ICC to set railroad rates, among others.
3. Back in Roosevelts time corruption was very prominent and not very secretive at all. Today it has to go on but it's very secretive because we have laws and acts to prevent such corruption. It's a lot harder to get away with doing things the wrong way now but it still gets done. Another relation is the acts Roosevelt made. Those acts and laws passed are still around or were the foundation for the system that we have now i.e. the Meat Inspection Act and Pure Food and Drug Act.

1) The Square Deal essentially was a compromise between the mine workers and the mine owners. It was the first time arbitration had ever been used to solve a dispute to help the public. Afterwards it quickly became TR's election campaign slogan.

His administration passed the Elkins Act, the Hepburn act, and the Pure Food & Drug act in an order to help and protect the public. He also took acres of land off of public sale and set it aside for wildlife reserves and national parks.
3) There was more corruption that you could shake a stick at back then. Political machines paid people with bribes and/or intimidated others in an attempt to make them vote the way they wanted. And though there may not be quite as much corruption today, there's still some. For example--and I know I'm probably gonna get hate mail for this, but you can decide if it's true or not--the black community. First off, let me make quite clear that I am NOT and never will be a racist, but here's the thing. 98% (good guess-timate) of the black community in America is liberal, or are Democrats. The other 2% of that community is Republican, and any black person who is a Republican and supports the right is called an "Uncle Tom" by the rest of the black community and the left because they're seen as "selling out ther kind". Herman Cain is a great example of this, because he was called and Uncle Top by many of the left and black community for running as Republican. And now branching off from that, according to the left we Republicans are a bunch of sexist, racist, far-right wingnuts when, in all reality, most of us are not! This type of bigotry and resentments entimidates people and causes them to go against their beliefs and go with the rest of the crowd (in this case the left) so that they are not treated in such a way.
