On August 6th 1945 a U.S. plane called the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. It killed more than 75,000 people. Three days later the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. The Japanese estimated that the death toll of both bombs and the radiation poisoning afterward totaled to 240,000 people.
ReplyDeleteI think that President Truman's decision was a good one because it ended the war on the Pacific side even though many civilians were killed. The war could have gone on longer and more in there favor. So all in all, good choice.
1. Harry Truman had a very hard decision. Drop the atomic bombs or try to invade the mainland of Japan. Truman decided to go with the atomic bombs. So on August 6th 1945 the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima killing thousands on impact and even more with radiation. The next bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing thousands again. After the second bomb Japan surrendered and the war was over.
ReplyDelete2. I think the bombing was a good idea in the sense that it would end the war with no U.S. casualties. On the other hand it killed many Japanese civilians and created a lot of destruction.
1. Even though they didn't want to it was the only choice. D-day was June 6,1944. The allies landed to the south. Everything was a confusion.

1) The first atomic bomb was dropped Hiroshima, and then the second on Nagasaki. The bombs flattened huge areas, killed thousands of people--some dying from the explosion and others later from burns and radiation poisoning, and basically crippled Japanese morale. They weren't as invincible as they thought.
ReplyDelete2) I agree with the statement. If Truman hadn't have dropped the bombs on Japan and crippled their morale, the war could have drug on and on and on forever in the Pacific. Thousands more American lives would have been lost, and the chances are that the Japanese might have defeated us then rushed on to take control of the rest of the Pacific. In all simplicity if Truman hadn't have given the orders to drop the bombs, the war probably would have ended differently and as such the world would be different today.
1- The bombs dropped on the Japanese were very destructive. The dropping of the bombs had killed over 75,000 people in Japan. The bombs had more than one affect, there was also some gas poisoning that came along with them after exploding.

The American airmen dropped Little Boy on the city of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, followed by Fat Man over Nagasaki on 9 August. Within the first two to four months of the bombings, the acute effects killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki, with roughly half of the deaths in each city occurring on the first day.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it was a wise decision. It just made Japan surrendered more quickly, but what we had to do to get that was horrific. The good thing was that it did stop them and make them surrender.
1) When Japan rejected unconditional surrender Truman proceeded to give the order to use atomic weapons against Japan. On August 6 a U.S plane dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Three days later the U.S dropped another bomb on Nagasaki.
ReplyDelete2) President Truman's decision was okay I suppose. It ended the war which is good. I feel like atomic weapons led to the creation of nuclear weapons and that is a problem we face now. Plus the atomic weapons left behind a ton of radiation and that's not good either. I'm glad that we were so successful with the atomic bombs I just think that there could have been another way.
1. The dropping of the atomic bomb was a brand new concept. Luckily it was done by the U.S. first. First one was dropped on Hiroshima and then 3 days later on Nagasaki. Each bombed killed thousands with both killing an estimated 250,000. The bombs made the Japanase realize there was no longer anywhere safe from these A-bombs.
ReplyDelete2. I agree. Without the dropping of the bombs, WWII could have gone on for who knows how long. When Truman decided to drop the A bomb he won the war. He did what it took. Japan realized they couldn't compete with such devastation and surrendered. Unfortunately the U.S. decided to pay for all the damage.
