1) After leading a company of Rangers in the battle for Omaha beach on D-Day, Captain John Miller is sent on a mission to find paratrooper Private James Ryan and bring him home safely. Ryan's three brothers have all been killed in action and the Brass want him returned to his family. He is fighting with his unit somewhere inland, but no-one knows where.
ReplyDeleteMiller chooses seven men for this dangerous mission. The squad picks its way across the devastated countryside losing two members in skirmishes with the Germans. Eventually, they find Ryan dug in with his unit and awaiting a German counter attack. He refuses to leave his comrades and Miller agrees that his squad will stay to help them defend their position. The Germans attack in overwhelming numbers and Miller and most of his squad are killed, but Ryan survives and makes it home.
Opening with the Allied invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944, members of the 2nd Ranger Battalion under Miller fight ashore to secure a beachhead. When fighting two brothers are killed in action. Earlier in New Guinea, a third brother is killed. Their mother is to get all three of the grave telegrams on the same day. The United States Army Chief of Staff is given an opportunity to take away some of her grief when he learns of a fourth brother James Ryan. And decides to send out 8 men to find him and bring him back home to his mother.

ReplyDeleteI have learned that this movie is about the Battle of Normanday and how it follows the troops fighting there. There is a group of U.S. troops that go behind enemy lines to find a paratrooper. The paratroopers brothers have all been killed in action. I'm excited to watch this movie!
ReplyDeleteThe movie is a about a soldier in the U.S. army during world war two. This soldiers brothers were killed in action. During that time if you were the last child remaining in your family, because your other siblings were killed in action, you were to be sent home to your family. So this happens to Private Ryan and he is supposed to be sent home. However, they can not find him because he was an air man and was dropped somewhere and not heard of. So the army decides to send a group of soldiers to find him and bring him home. During the movie this group has to go through different cities in Europe and encounters heavy resistance from the Germans. Some men lose thier lives so that this one man can go home to his family.
ReplyDeleteTom Hanks and soldiers along with him go to follow the Normandy Landings who are a group of U.S. soldiers go out of safety to get a trooper whose brothers have been killed in action. I'm excited to see it!
ReplyDeleteIt seems this movie is about a somewhat rag-tag team of soliders who are given a mission to go behind enemy lines and save a soldier known as Private James Ryan. Along the way they question whether it's worth losing more lives in the war by just saving the life of one man. Apparently the movie is based on an actually event.

Marshall, is given an opportunity to alleviate some of her grief when he learns of a fourth brother, Private James Ryan, and decides to send out 8 men (Cpt. Miller and select members from 2nd Rangers) to find him and bring him back home to his mother. After the invasion of fortress Europe on June 6th 1944, Tom Hanks leads his squad from the 2nd Ranger Battalion of the 29th Infantry Division, on a mission to find and bring home Private James Francis Ryan after the death of his brothers. The mission takes them through Nazi occupied territory to establish contact with Ryan's unit an element of the 101st Airborne Division. This exiting war thriller brings the reality of history's bloodiest war into the homes of ordinary people, but also brings into light the reality of broken and lost families in a time of total and encompassing war. After learning that Private Ryans three brothers have all died in the war, the government attempts to locate him to send him home. The problem is they don't know if he is dead or alive behind enemy lines.During WWII, Chief of Staff, General Marshall is informed that three of a woman's sons have been killed and that she's going to receive the notifications of their demise at the same time. And when he learns that a fourth son is still unaccounted for, the General decides to send a unit to find him and bring him back, despite being told that it's highly unlikely that he is still alive and the area that he was known to be at is very dangerous. So the unit consisting of 8 men are sent to find him but as stated it's very dangerous and one by one, each of them are being picked off. Will they find him and how many of them will still be alive.

ReplyDeleteRodat conceived the film's story in 1994 when he saw a monument dedicated to eight siblings killed in the American Civil War. Rodat imagined a similar sibling narrative set in World War II. The script was submitted to producer Mark Gordon, who handed it to Hanks. It was finally given to Spielberg, who decided to direct.
