ReplyDelete2.) Native-born Americans opposed the arrival of the new immigrants. They believed they were too different to integrate into society. They were also worried that they would take their jobs because the immigrants were willing to work cheaply.
3.) An issue in today's political scene is immigration reform. People are unsure of what to do with the illegal immigrants in the United States. In the 1800s, people weren't able to cope with the new immigrants bombarding their cities.
1) Immigrants started coming from other parts of the world other than just Europe.

3) Compared to now a days we still don't want the immigrants and if they do come we usually give them the dirty jobs and pay them very poorly.

1) Immigration changed because more people from different nationalities started coming to the United States by the hundreds of thousands.
ReplyDelete2) Some native- born Americans did not like that the fact that immigrants were taking their jobs and were willing to work for lower wages. Some Chinese immigrants got their houses burned.
3) Immigrants today and back in the 1800s will work for lower wages and do not always live in the most sanitary places. They are also not always welcome to the United States with open arms. Some Americans still respond the same to immigrants but not at severely as the 1800s.

ReplyDelete2.) Nativists did not appreciate them coming to our country at all. They believed that the immigrants would never be able to fit in. They also thought that they were stealing many of the jobs that native-born Americans could be having. It was also believed that allowing them to work was lowing wages for everyone, not just the immigrants.
3.) Immigration issues are about the same today as they were in the 1800's. Look at our situation with Mexico. Our country is desperately trying to keep them out. Obviously, some are trying to sneak in, but those who aren't are still unwelcome.

3) The immigration laws are way more strict now. You have to have many different pieces of paperwork to be able to come to the US. Back in the 1800's you could just come to the US, and nothing would happen.

3.) Back in the late 1800's, they dealt with immigrants mainly coming from eastern or southern Europe. Today, we are dealing with immigrants that are coming from all over the world. Also, we deal with many immigrants that have token some of our American jobs.
1) Immigration changed in the late 1800's because most of them were from southern or eastern Europe. Many of these new immigrants came to the United states to escape poverty or persecution. It also changed by immigrants coming from other parts of the world instead of just Europe. And there was also many different religions coming to the states too.

3) Today we still have the problem with too many people in America and not enough jobs. So there is a lot of people out there with no jobs and no money and don't have much just like the 1800's.

3) Today immigrants have to do many things now to get into our country, they used to be able to just come over anytime. But there are some people that still do not want immigrants here in America. and some of the immigrants still work for low wages.

1) Immigration became a huge deal. Immigrants started coming from Southern and Eastern Europe to escape the life they had in the other countries, mostly poverty. Though, when they came to America, they found that it would be just as hard to make a life.

3) Not much has changed from the 1800's to now. People still fear immigrants taking their jobs. Though the laws are much more strict, the immigrants cannot just come to America and take the jobs of the native born people. It takes a lot of work to become a citizen.

3. Americans thought that the new immigrants were going to hurt the US. They thought the immigrants were not going to be able to assimilate and become "real" Americans. They thought that immigrants had bad values and contributed to increased crime rates. These are issues similar to the ones today.
