Theodore Roosevelt was the first progressive president of the United States. Taking office after the assassination of President William McKinley, Roosevelt was elected in his own right in 1904. During his two terms as president, he promoted the regulation of big business and helped preserve natural resources for future generations.

ReplyDelete2)Theodore Roosevelt, was put up there because he was the first president to really stand up to the gigantic, super-powerful corporations who were taking over American in the Industrial Age. Roosevelt came through laws that limited the collective power of corporations. He also got some laws passed that gave workers some rights.
3) Workers have many rights now. Roosevelt started this. He helped the workers get freedoms that they needed in order to stay healthy and happy. Now-a-days we have many options of work. We can pick what we want to do. We can also decide where we want to work.

Two laws were passed that turned the Interstate Commerce Commission into a significant regulatory agency. (Elkins Act, Hepburn Act) The Meat Inspection Act and Pure Food and Drug Act were also passed. The Newlands Reclamation Act allowed money from the sales of public land to be used for irrigation and reclamation.
3.) Conservationists are STILL desperately trying to protect the environment are super worried about the conditions and numbers of the wildlife, etc. It's blown up into this huge "issue" today. There are also many more businesses (is that what they are??) today that are protecting the people. Since then, the CDC was developed, and many others that I can't think of at the moment. Everything that Theodore Roosevelt brought on has been brought over to the next generations, including this one.
