
When war enveloped Europe, the United States tried to remain neutral. In 1917, however, the U.S. joined the Allied cause. The government quickly moved to mobilize the economy and to build public support for the war. (Watch the following video links below)

1. The U.S. tried to remain neutral because they thought because they were not a European country that it was not their problem. We joined the war because the Germans destroyed a ship with American passengers on it.

3. The government could use propaganda to convince people that the war is for a good reason.
1) We tried to remain neutral because because we had strong trades with both of the sides of the war. We joined the war because people started to question if we were sending their goods to the other countries. Germany also destroyed a ship with Americans in it.

He also asked Americans to plant “victory gardens,” small gardens that sprouted up in backyards, to help make Americans more self-sufficient and less dependent. The Fuel Administration enacted similar measures by proposing “heatless Mondays” and “gasless Sundays.”
3.) The Government would use propaganda to mobilize public support. It is important because they need support from the citizens to make war efforts succeed.

1) Wilson believed that since immigrates from both sides were in America that they should not choose to go to war. They finally went to war because Americas ships were being taken over and were not allowed to come or go to get supplies for America.

1. Because it was all going on "over there", and wasn't any of our concern. There were plenty of isolationists who didn't want to face the fact that we live in a world in which we must be involved or we will become irrelevant and eventually replaced. We entered the war because of unrestricted submarine warfare, the Zimmermann Note, and the Lusitania.
