The German invasion of Poland in 1939 launched World War II. By 1940, much of Western Europe had fallen to Germany, while Japan expanded its hold on Asia. For a time, the United States maintained its neutrality. Lend-lease aid to the Allies, beginning in 1941, however, marked an important step in U.S. involvement in the conflict. (p.400, 16.1)

ReplyDeleteJapan bombed Pearl Harbor. In four days Hitler declared war on the United States. President Roosevelt called on Congress for immediate and massive expansion of the armed forces. Twenty years of neglect and indifference, however, could not be overcome in a few days. American industry had to support the nation's Allies as well as its own military expansion. 2 major turns are that Hitler killing himself was definitely one of the most biggest turning points of ww2 because nazi germany and all other nazi soldiers lost their faith and agressivness, and D-Day in Europe.
