  1. In 1865, United States President Abraham Lincoln came up with a plan to reconstruct the South. This plan would make Southerners take an oath supporting the United States, rather than the Confederacy. The Southern states rejoining the Union could no longer allow slavery because the Civil War was over, and their punishment for trying to split the country in two was that they had to free all slaves.

  2. Reconstruction- rebuilding the rebelling states and reuniting the nation.
The Reconstruction era was the period after the American Civil War. During this time, the South was in political, social and economic turmoil, and eleven Confederate states had seceded from the Union during the wartime unrest. In response, the Union implemented a controversial reconstruction plan to regain order in the Confederate states.

  3. Reconstruction was the rebuilding of the rebelling states. this would reunite the nation. Lincoln had issued the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction. Congress objected his plan. They laid out its own plans in the Wade-Davis Bill. when Lincoln died Andrew Johnson denounced southern treason. The 13th amendment was ratiified, and black codes were adopted by the south.

  4. It was rebuilding the rebelling states and reuniting the Union. In the north politicians tried to create equality and peace in the south by creating amendments and proclamations. Usually these acts were vetoed by President Johnson or else just didn't work. In the south there were over 4 million free African Americans and even more soldiers without jobs, homes, and money. Black Codes were enforced upon freed slaves in the south also.

  5. The reconstruction was to rebuild the southern states that they had destroyed in the war of attrition and total war. The construction affeted the north because the north had to help rebuild the south states and alot of them didnt really want to do that. The reconstruction for the south was different. In the south they had no jobs and no homes to live in. Many slaves didnt know what to do with themselves cuz they were used to working everyday. And many slave owners didnt knnow what to do because they couldn't have slaves anymore.

  6. Reconstruction was the rebuilding the rebelling states and reuniting the nation. Reconstruction in the North meant trying to get the South to give the ex-slaves rights and to stop the violence toward them. In the South they had to adapt to not having slaves and treating them like people and not like property.

  10. The Reconstruction was the rebuilding of the Law and of the South.
Many different changes were made to the United States during this time.Such as the 13th amendment, which abolished slavery, and the 15th amendment, which gave the black man the right to vote.

The Civil Rights Act of 1866 declared that everyone born in the United States was a citizen with full civil rights.

With all of these "new" rights being made the South was sure to retaliate. The most widely known group would be the KKK. The Klu Klux Klan was a terrorist group that was against anybody that was or wanted to help the black man. They killed, burned, and did pretty much anything that they wanted to in order to strike fear into the people.

  12. The Reconstruction actually started before the Reconstruction Act was passed. It was the period of time after the Civil War when the South was being repaired and rebuilt.
The Reconstruction affected the South by trying to rebuild their economy and homes, buyt at the same time improve former slaves lives. One conflict was that some white southerners didn't like being overseen by black soldiers.
The North was affected because they had to get the south to treat ex-slaves fairly, which was hard to do. The North was also slightly affected by the poor economy of the South. The North had their own stable economy, but by trying to improve the South's they spent time and money from theirs.

In the north many people feared that the freed slaves would come up to the north and take their jobs. The effects in the south were devestating. They had to replant fields, rebuild homes and barns, and start over with a new government. They also had to do this without the help of the freed slaves.

  17. "Reconstruction" is a term that refers to the policies that were put inyo place between 1863 and 1877 when the nation was focused on winning the Civil War, abolishing slavery, defeating the Confederacy, reconstructing the nation and amending the US Constitution. Reconstruction policies were debated in the North when the war began, and were continually debated until the Emancipation Proclamation, issued on January 1, 1863. President Abraham Lincoln was the major policymaker until his assassination in April 1865. So Johnson filled in for him. Reconstruction began in each state when federal troops controlled most of the state. They rebuilt houses, farms, and railroads to name a few. In addition they disscussed the rights of former slaves, and former confederate soldiers.

This grreatly affected the norht and the south. First conflicts still arose in the south. Tensions were high so reconstruction was slow. Also many northerners thought the rebuilding process was unessecary.

  18. The Reconstruction was some Federal laws that gave radical Republicans military control of the South in 1866. The South was affected by the slaves becoming free and not working for them anymore. Many plantations suffered afterward because they didn't have as many workers as they needed to make crops and sale. They also needed to rebuild many houses and businesses. The North was affected because many whites were afraid that the African Americans were going to take over their jobs. They also weren't quite for sure what to do with all the new ex-slaves.
