Theodore Roosevelt was the first progressive president of the United States. Taking office after the assassination of President William McKinley, Roosevelt was elected in his own right in 1904. During his two terms as president, he promoted the regulation of big business and helped preserve natural resources for future generations.

Both presidents are trying to help the enviroment. Roosevelt made national parks, and saved wildlife. Obama is trying to prevent global warming, and cut down pollution.

Roosevelt first used his idea on miners that were wanting to go on strike. The square deal was where every man, woman, and child would get his or her piece of the pie. They would have no less and no more.

The Square Deal was, in a sense, Roosevelt's Campaign motto. It was to "see to it that every man has a square deal, no less and no more." It was also his plan to slow and stop corruption.
ReplyDeleteHe fought corruption in business by breaking up trusts, like those that the Northern Securities Company. This was his way of "drawing the line against misconduct, not wealth." He also created the health agencies to protect the consumer with acts like the Meat Inspection Act.
The current president is also making changes to businesses and our lifestyles, for example, Obama is trying to change healthcare. A certain amount of people are not happy about this, like the companies that sold dangerous products to consumers weren't happy that Roosevelt made them stop this.
