Roosevelt and the Square Deal (Blog #15)





Theodore Roosevelt was the first progressive president of the United States. Taking office after the assassination of President William McKinley, Roosevelt was elected in his own right in 1904. During his two terms as president, he promoted the regulation of big business and helped preserve natural resources for future generations.

Your Assignment:

1.) What was the Square Deal?
2.) How did Theodore Roosevelt fight corruption in business?
3.) Make a parallel connection to the then and now.

    1) It was Roosevelt's 1904 campain slogan he promised to "see to it that everyman has a square deal no less no more."
    2) He fought corruption in business by breaking up illegal trusts and regulating railroads and the food and drug industries.
    3) The government is trying to regulate businesses and industries.

    1. The Square Deal was a promise Roosevelt made to "see to it that every man has a square deal, no less or no more."
    2. Roosevelt broke up illegal truses and regulated railroads and food and drug industries to fight corruption in business.
    3. The government is regulating businesses and entire iundustries to fight corruption.

    2-by filing 44 suits agains the big businesses and by passing the MEAT INSPECTION ACT and the PURE FOOD AND DRUG ACT
    3-businesses are still regulated just like they were then and the governments still wanted more!

    1. the square deal was called for limiting the power of trusts, promoting public health and safety, and improving working conditions.
    2. he promoted railroad regulations. and butsted up the trusts.
    3. Roosevelt fought corruption in business just like the administration is trying to fight poor banking industry.
