Welcome Back / Civil War (Blog #1)

Welcome back for another exciting year! I hope your summer went well and you had time to do whatever it is you do. For this first blog assignment, you are to tell a little bit about your summer. Did you go on vacation, if so where? Work, doing what? Anything that you did this summer that your classmates may, or may not know. If you are new, introduce yourself.

1). Watch both videos below and add a few sentences for each one discussing the main ideas for each.

*Election of 1860

*Emancipation Proclamation

Due: By Sunday no later than 11:59pm

  1. 1) They were talking about the Presidental Races, and Abraham Lincoln. They said slavery was a big deal in the race.

    2) They were talking about how Abraham wanted to free the slaves in the South. But, in order to do that they would need to inforce it with the military. And slave owners wouldn't do it right away.

  2. 1) The first video was really about how Lincoln became president and about how the north and south were split when it came to election decisions whether they be for Congress or Presidential. The second video was about the Emancipation Procalamation and about how it affected the nation. The south of course was not happy with it and didn't bother to tell there slaves about it when it passed, thus still keeping them in bondage until they found out on their own and left on their own accord. But then again some of the northerners weren't too happy about it either. They thought Lincoln might have gone too far. All in all it had an effect of mixed emotions and action.

My summer was... okay. Nothing really exciting happened. I spent most of my days at home doing chores in the morning because my parents had already left for work and them trying to beat the heat in the afternoon. The only thing that could be considered a vacation was going to Burwell for the big Rodeo in July. That was pretty fun, considering my Aunt Leona and Uncle Rob came down from Minnesota. Then of course there was fair. All in all my summer was pretty good... except for the heat... and the fact that there was no rain.

  3. 1.) The first video was about the election of 1860. It talked about the main election problems and what was good about election.

2.)Emancipation proclomation was about declaring freedom for the slaves of civilian and military Confederate officials.

3.)My summer was very busy! The start of the summer was my washington trip then i came back and worked at the pool all summer. In july i went to Arkansas with My dads side of the family on a houseboat trip for 10 days then after that i came back and worked some more and now school :/.

  4. I didn't go on vacation this summer but I did work at the Hangar 22 and the Pool. The first video's main ideas were slavery and the north and south splitting. The second video's main ideas were the actual war and Abraham Lincolns thoughts and quotes from him.

  5. 1) i watched the first video and i think that jeferson davis had a good idea to split the north and south. because most people got what they wanted. i also thing that it is unfair to the slaves ,for ovious reasons.

2)i thought that it was a good idea that blacks helped fight in the war . becasue it kinda gave them a chance to get along .i liked it when lincoln siad that slave owners in states "on the fince " or satates in rebellion.

  6. Well this summer was pretty good but i got surgery. The guy told me it was going to be a veryyy borring summer but it wasnt! I still managed to get grounded. I worked at The Kloset on Tuesdays Thursdays and some Saturdays. I went to Omaha with Taylor and Grandma Shirley. It was really fun but i dont plan to go somewhere with Grandma for a while.
The Election of 1860 Was a huge step toward the civil war beacaue Abraham Linclon did not was slavery and was voted in by people who didnt want it either. So for that he was going to fight for it! The Emancipation Proclamation didnt happen very easy the Union wasnt very strong and Abraham Linlon got his climax in the battle & freeed the slaves.

  7. My summer was pretty blah. I didnt do much except work, weights, and camps. I went to the lake a couple of times, but thats about as exciting as it got. I satyed in town mostly and hung out with friends.

    Election of 1860
The election of 1860 was an election between four canidates. President Lincoln was one of them. At first it did not look good for Lincoln. The Southern states hated him and the other canidate had beat Lincoln in an election before. Even with all the turmiol Lincoln came out on top.

    Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation act was an act to end slavery. It caused many problems, but in the end worked out. It also helped the Union by helping them gain troops in the war.

  8. My summer went well. I went to Utah and that was pretty exciting. I didn't work this year. I didn't do anything really interesting over summer.

    1) Election of 1860- It was mainly about the topic of slavery. And how Abraham Lincoln was honest so he was popular in the north, but in the south some didn't even put his name on the ballet.

    2) Slavery didn't stop all at one time like people hoped it would, but eventually Lincoln stopped slavery

  9. My summer went by way to fast! It was a good one tho. My vacation was to Omaha with Michaela and her grandma. My favorite was the zoo:) I took CNA classes this summer, so that kept me pretty busy! I'm now a certified CNA and I have a job taking care of an old lady named Doris.
1.) Election of 1860- It's crazy how much the North and the South split up just because they had different views of things. The thing that stuck out the most to me was that Abe Lincoln's name wasn't put on some ballets for people to vote. It wasn't fair!
Emancipation Proclamation- It was a good thing that acts were passed so that slaves could become free. It didn't happen very fast, but Abe did end up getting the job done!

  10. The first just mainly talked about how President Lincoln came to be president and hoiw the south or Confederates came to separate. President Lincoln being elected was big step for the Cicil War coming into progress.

Lincoln wanted the complete abolition of slaves but the South didnt. Each were very strong on their feelings and wouldn't budge. This led to the civil war, the bloodiest war for Americans. The North or Union prevailed and slaves were freed with the Emancipation Proclamation and many slaves joined the war for the Union. But this was only a start in the fight for black freedom.

  11. I had a boring summer, I only went camping a couple times, other than that did almost nothing.

    1) In the election of 1860, the country was split between the Northern states and the Southern states on the issue of slavery. there were four nomanees on the ballot that year, two from the north and two from the south, out of those people President Lincoln was elected.

    2) President Lincoln was worried that slavery would drive the country further into war, so he wrote the Emancipation Proclimation, therefore freeing all slaves.

  12. My summer was enjoyable at times, I stayed home quite a bit. I also golfed plentily. But I got a job in Arnold working at the market.
    1) The first video talked about
The election of 1860 and how it was split between Northern and Southern states. And all of this over the topic of slavery. And on the ballot included former president, Abraham Lincoln.
    2) The other video was on the famous Emancipation Proclaimation. And how Lincoln thought of the idea of creating it. He was worried that slavery would plummet the world into war.

  13. My summer was good. It went by so fast!
1)The Election of 1860 was rough for President Lincoln. Most states in the south hated him so much that they didnt even put his name on some of the ballets. Most people in the north were ok with him. It was also rough for him because he had gone up agaisnt someone who had beaten him in an election before.
2)The Emancipation Proclamation was an act introduced to end slavery. President Lincoln wanted complete abolition of slavery. The south didnt agree with Lincon and their strong feelings against each other lead to the Civil War.
