Spurred by industrialization, American cities grew dramatically during the second half of the century. With this growth came other changes, and a distinct urban culture developed.

1. In the late 1800s people from all over the world were entering the United States either illegally or legally.
ReplyDelete2. They really didn't want them, most were creating businesses or taking the Americans' jobs because they needed the money more.
3. Nowadays we don't have as much immigration as we did then, but we have more illegal immigrants than ever.
1.) The immigrants wanted better opertunities. Many came mostly because of the railroad. More and more immigrants came to America.

3.) The people back then didnt have education some of them anyways but they still dont now. I think not much has changed but then again if we didn't have immigrants we wouldn't have the production that we do today.
1)It changed because people from new countries were coming in. And most of those who came were protestants
ReplyDelete2)Many viewed immigration as a threat. Many felt that they were to different to ever fit in. Others blamed them for all of society's ills.
3) It's almost the same as it was before but there is probably less than there was before. We also blame them for taking our jobs and other stuff like before too.
1- In the late 1800's there was a new wave of immigrants that came to the U.S. About 70% of them were from Southern or Eastern Europe, and most were Catholic, Jewish, or Greek Orthodox. French Canadians, Armenians, Arabs, Chinese, and Japanese also arrived by the thousands.
ReplyDelete2- Native-born Americans viewed immigration as a threat. Many felt that newcomers were just too different ever to fit in. Others went further, blaming immigrants for all society's ills.
3- There were many immigrants back then and still are today. I'm sure that some people today have the same views as people did in the late 1800's about immigrants as well.

3)In the 1800's there were alot of immigrants coming to the U.S. for jobs, the same thing is happening today, it is just the immigrants come from a different direction and dont speak our language.
1) In the beginning most of the immigrants that came to the U.S. were Protestants from northwestern Europe. But during the industrialization a new wave of immigrants swept in, 70% of whom were from southern and eastern Europe and were Catholic, Jewish, or Greek Orthodox. Also arriving in the thousands were French Canadians, Armenians, Arabs, Chinese, and Japanese people.

3) We still have many immigrant issues today. Many Mexicans cross our border illegally, looking for a better life. Here they find jobs and freedoms and rights. But the problem is, is that these jobs and freedoms and rights are not theirs' for the taking. If they are here illegally they are not an American citizen. This is why many people today view Mexicans as threats, whether they are here legally or not. They take jobs that could easily belong to people native-born here.
Immigration went from about 150000 in 1860 to about 450000 in 1890 so obivously immigration increased by a lot.
ReplyDeleteMany of the native-born Americans were against so much immigration. They were coming in and taking a lot of jobs. Many people wwanted to stop immigration and restrictions were imposed.
We are getting a lot of illegal immigrants from the south. These immigrants are taking up a lot of jobs. It wouldn't be a bad thing if they weren't doing it illegally. Many Americans are very upset about the illegal immigration and want tighter restrictions on the borders.

ReplyDelete2.) The natives didn't exactly like it because it gave them less opertunities even though some of the immigrants were more qualified they still took the natives jobs.
3.) A lot of people come to the states today because they are in need of a job. Nothing has really changed because americans are still angry because there are less jobs for them and because most immigrants are illegal.
