Economic Stimulus (Blog #13)

Theodore Roosevelts "square deal" promised to give every laborer and farmer a square deal, no more, no less. T.R.'s theory, with regard to helping the economy, dealt with protecting the consumer through reforms and trustbusting. After T.R.'s Presidency, Taft continued on with this theory of protecting the consumer through progressive reforms. Later on in the 1930's Franklin D. Roosevelt institutes an economic stimulus plan his administration calls the "New Deal". This plan calls for tax money to be spent on infrasturcture similar to that of President Obama's plan.

**Square Deal, TR**

**New Deal, FDR**

Your Assignment:

1.) Discuss the way President Obama and his plan have attempted to stimulate the economy. (Research)
2.) Discuss the other side of the aisle (Repbulicans) and their theory of the best way to stimulate the economy. (Again, research will be necessary)
3.) Which of these do you believe would better suit stimulating the economy.

  3. 1. Obama is trying to creat more job for the people who were laid off, and can't find work. He's trying to make it so that when he creats jobs more money is flowing through the country and we aren't in as much debt.

    2. Romney is trying scaring the heck out of small business and that is we’ve got to get rid of Obamacare. Romney has outlined a strategy that included energy independence, improving education, increasing trade, lowering the deficit and helping

    3. I really don't know, I don't see any changes with Obama, so I kind of just gave up. I think if they wanted to be bailed out bad enough, they would have done it already. Or been working on it.. What have they been doing the past four years Obama was in office? What is he going to do the next four as well?

  4. 1) Obama’s economic plan will put $75 billion of stimulus into the economy by getting money in theform of tax cuts and direct spending directly to the people who need it most.Obama’s proposal will immediately provide stimulus using means that do not require lengthy governmental or administrative delays. The plan also reserves an additional $45 billion of stimulus that can be thrown into the economy quickly in the future if the economy continues to deteriorate.
2)Republicans want to extend the Bush tax cuts for all Americans as a way to stimulate the economy and facilitate job creation. The republicans are largely centered on tax cuts.
3)I'm really not sure what would be better for the economy. President Obama and republicans have very similar ideas. I think that if they could get together and revise both plans to make one it would work a lot better than just fighting about who's right and who's wrong.

  5. 1. Barack Obama plans to invest $75 Billion of stimulus into the economy by getting money in the form of tax cuts and direct spending directly to people who need it the most.Obama’s proposal will immediately provide stimulus using means that do not require lengthy governmental or administrative delays. The plan also reserves an additional $45 billion of stimulus that can be injected into the economy quickly in the future if the economy continues to deteriorate.
2.The republican plan is basically to reduce income taxes for all americans and to create jobs.
3.The Obama plan seems pretty put together but I think that the republican plan should at least get a chance.

  6. 1)President Obama plans to stimulate the economy by:
1)Immediate Action to Create Good Jobs in America
    2)Immediate Relief for Struggling Families
3)Direct, Immediate Assistance for Homeowners, Not a Bailout for Irresponsible Mortgage Lenders
4)A Rapid, Aggressive Response to Our Financial Crisis, Using All the Tools We Have

    2) While Republicans want to:
    1)make more jobs
    2)Have student loans disappear
    3) Lower taxes

    3) I think that Obama has the better plan to fix the economy. Though I guess we will have to wait and see.

  7. 1. Obama wants to create jobs so that anybody who wants a job can find a job.

    2. It is basically lower taxes so that people will have more money in their pocket and will be willing to spend more or invest more.

    3. I believe the republican side is a a better way for the economy. Either way it's hard to stimulate a whole country but it's just natural, if you have $50 as compared to $20, you are most likely going to spend more frelly.

  8. 1) Obama tried to protect the american people by progressive reforms. For most Americans, this is a time of great economic anxiety.People are working harder for less and paying
more for everything from health care, to college tuition and even filling up the car with gas. but obama is trying to creat more jobs. so thast we can do these things with out the worry of having enough money to eat off of.
    2) Rommney is trying to gte the bottom part of the middle class and all of the lower class to ablish obamacare. he wants improvments in education, trade, and independence.
3)i agree with mason on this one. because no only would we hvae more jobs here, but it would bring back low prices on things that mnost people need.

  9. 1. Obama wants to create more jobs by building infrastructures. If there are more jobs people will have more oney and will be able to invest and spend. He will create more government jobs byu building new roads, putting up pwer lines, and more. The mnore jobs our country has the more stable.
    2. The republicans want to lower taxes. They want to keep more money in the pockets of the people. If people have more money then they will want to invest and spend.
    3. I believe in creating new jobs. I think with more jobs people will feel better and actually have more money to invest. The more jobs in our country the better.

  10. 1. Obama wants to get rid of school loans and make more job oppertunities. If there is more jobs more people are going to get paid and then spend more money.
    2. They want to lower taxes in the middle class. If they lower taxes we will have more money to spend.
    3. I think more jobs is a good idea but getting rid of the student loans would be great because that really hurts people.

  11. 1) Obama has tried to stimulate the economy by raising taxes on the upper class people and lowering taxes on the middle class people. He believes that in this way more money will come into the system and help create new buisnesses and thus new jobs for people.

    2) Republicans believe that we should lower taxes on the rich so that they have more money to keep their own buisnesses running and pay their employees. We don't believe that we should raise taxes on the middle class.

    3) I believe in the Republican plan, and not simply because I am a Republican either. I believe that it is the best way to keep money flowing in this economy and to help create jobs. If we raise taxes on the upper class then they have less money to pay their employees to work and lay them off. But if we lower the taxes on the rich they have that money to keep paying their employees and thus keep them on and make more money.

2- Republicans want to lower the cost of taxes.

3- The republican plan would be way better off. When people have money there will be more job oppurtunities as well.
