When war enveloped Europe, the United States tried to remain neutral. In 1917, however, the U.S. joined the Allied cause. The government quickly moved to mobilize the economy and to build public support for the war. (Watch the following video links below)

2) According to the second link and your suggestions, what are some things that a government might do to mobilize a nation's economy to meet a national emergency.
3) How might a government also mobilize public support. Why is this important?

1. The U.S didnt not want to partake in the European war. They had imports from both sides of the fight, and didnt want to upet either of them. However the countries in the war tried to stop U.S merchant ships from getting to thier enemies. Germany took it a little to far and America joined the war.

3- Public support is important because you want them on your side, the more people the better.
1) they tried top stay neutral because they didnt want to lose the lies that they had with each country. and alot of the people in the US were from these countries at war.

3)bc if they had supporet then it drove them to do there best and if they did thier best then they could get home earlier.

2. The governmetn would set up oraganizations to help the cause. They would try to stock up on supplies and probably limit citizens use of fuels and other needed supplies fot the war.
ReplyDelete3. The government needs to gain the public support by telling them exactly why they should help. They need to tell the public all that the war is for and why everybody needs to do thier part to win the war. The government could use propaganda to help get the people on its side.
1) We had strong trade-ties with both sides in the war. We weren't exactly partial to one of the other. But trade became all but impossible. The only trade route to Germany was controlled by the British, and they stopped any and all ships merchant ships that went through.
ReplyDelete2) They might put more regulation on food and gas to help supply the armed forces with both. They might also start scrap metal drives and rubber drives again to reuse to make tanks and such for the war effort.
3) Propaganda posters and patriotic public speeches. Both feul the public with a desire to help their country and fight against the enemy.

ReplyDelete2.They would have new organizations to help with different issues. Some of the issues are regulations needed on food and gas for the army. Another is to stock up on supplies needed for the war.
3.The government needs to gain support from the public by letting them know what would help. They need to do this by having public speeches and using posters. Using Propaganda would help the most to get people on the governments side.

3) A government would want to gain the public support, because in a Democracy the government really doesn't want to be doing anything the majority of the population doesn't agree on. 3)They could give them positive speeches to make them fell better and tell them why we are fighting. It is important because the soldiers also fight for the public and for freedom. And the public would probably give the soldiers morale.
