Your Assignment:

1).  Pretend that you are a part of President Wilson's economic advisory panel, which has been charged with drawing up a plan to prepare the nation's economy for wartime.  Divide your plan into 3 parts - raising money, organizing resources, and organizing industry and labor.  Explain your plan thoroughly.

2).  Lastly, does the government have the power to enter the economy in wartime situations?  Explain.

  1. 1) I'd save money by reusing reusable stuff and having fund raisers. Take things that most people just throw away or don't use and use it for the armies. I'd make or ask some large factories to make war equipment for the war.
    2) Yes, actually the daylight savings time is a good example because they put that in place to save more electricity and thus saving more money.

  2. 1.) We can raise money through taxes. To get resources we can have government owned factories. To organize industry and labor we can hire people to work in the factories.
2.) Technically yes the government has the power whether it is right or not.

  3. 1)
Part 1: We can raise money for the war by increasing prices on daily goods. Food and household items. Also increasing fuel prices could help raise money for our country.
Part 2: We can organize and divide resources according to where they are being sent for the war effort. We also have to ration our resources so that we have enough to keep our army strong but also keep America strong.
Part 3: We can organize labor and industry according to which skills we need in a certain place. We can put those who know how to do a certain skill in an area that uses that skill for the war effort.

    2) Yes. The government does have the power to enter the economy. They control the rationing of the resources and the prices of things that would help raise money for the war.

  4. 1. We will have to increase taxes for the war effort. We will make some factory's build military supplies. We will have everyone in America do their part for the war effort.
    2. Yes the government has the power to enter the economy into wartime situations, they have the power to raise taxes and they would also buy weapon materials for the effort from factories that build them so that to could also effect the economy.

  5. I would advise the president to stay out of the economy in tell we found out what kind of war it was going to be. if it was just going to be a fast war then I think the military would have enough in the budget. but if it is like another world war I would go to total war where every bodies has to pitch into the war effort. and if we needed to I would rations things like oil gas and water.
2.yes the govement can enter the economy buy rising taxes and buying guns and stuff like that from factories.

  6. 1.) We could do many fundraisers. increase the amount of tax, and on fuel and junk food. Factories would be huge to have. We would have to have machines to be in the factory and factory workers.
2.) yes, the government does have the power.

  7. 1.) We are going to do a fundraiser where we sail products and a certain percentage goes to the war budget and have women my stamps.
We are going to reduce the speed limit on highways to reduce the amount of rubber used and have people only fill up what they need for the week.
We are going to create jobs to where women can contribute to the war by working in munitions factories and other industries.

2.) The government does have the power to enter the economy in wartime situations because then if we really need all of the resources or money and what not, the government has all the power to do it. They did this very thing back during WWI and WW2.

  8. 1) An increase of prices and taxes would help gain money greatly. By recycling more other than buying something and throwing it away in perfectly good shape or something that is recyclable. Factories can help by making more good useful towards the war.
    2) Yes, the has the power to enter the economy whether appropriate or not.

  9. 2)Raising Money- We could raise money by raising taxes. This would help raise a lot of money in a little way. We could also make everyone who is not involved in the war pay a fee to help keep their safety.

Organizing Resources- We can ration our food, so that there is enough to go around for everyone. We would also need to make sure that no one had more food than any of the other families.

Organizing Industry and Labor We can organize labor by making sure everyone has the job they need to fit their skills. We can also put people who are more informed in the more needed places.

    2) Yes they do, because we usually need their help. We also could use the money that they could throw in.

  10. 1. Raising taxes, propaganda, changing factories to build war equipment, rationing, and giving speeches to rally the public to stand behind the government.

    2. yes the government can interfere with the economy in war situations. Some measures taken include the increasing of tax rates as well as the introduction of resource allocation programs

  11. 1) Raising money- We could raise money through four Liberty Bond issues. Another way the government can always make money is by raising taxes.
    2) Organizing resources- By creating the food administration and the fuel administration helped regulate the production and supply of these essential resources. Herbert Hoover was in charge of the food administration. To stimulate wartime production Hoover guaranteed farmers high prices. So farmers grew more and a lot more food was made during wartime.
    3) Organizing industry and labor- By creating the Railroad administration and the war Industries board these programs helped raise money, conserve scarce recourses, and coordinate government, business and industries.

  12. 1) Increasing prices and taxing necessary items would bring in more money. We have to ration out our resources so they last longer. Factories could help contribute to the war efforts.
    2) Yes, the government has the power to enter the economy no matter what.

  13. 1.) Part 1: There's no need to raise money any other way than increasing the cost on everyday items that people are consistently buying.
Part 2: To get the necessary items needed for war, there's going to be some rationing done on the average citizens' part. The less they use, the more that's available for the war.
Part 3: Factories and processing plants are going to play a major role in preparing for war. They are going to be working hard to get the things made that we are needing. Other citizens are going to have to help too - women and children alike.

2.) Yes, they do. They are big leaders in our country and control pretty much everything. If they feel it necessary to take steps in the economy, they will surely do it.

  14. 1.) The government raised money through four Liberty Bond issues during the war. Posters, parades, and rallies promoted each bond issue. The secretary of the treasury of the time seemingly threatened citizens by stating, "Every person who refuses to subscribe...is a friend of Germany." and "is not entitled to be an American citizen." Raised taxes on business incomes and large personal incomes produced about $9 billion. To supply the army with food supplies, the Food Administration guaranteed farmers high prices. This increased farm production. Americans were encouraged to taking part in meatless and wheatless days, along with planting "victory gardens" to grow their own vegetables. The War Industries Board's director convinced business owners to comply with the government by reducing prices for the army's convenience. Working conditions were improved for many workers after several strikes occurred. An increased number of women were also added to the work force to replace the men drafted for the army.

2.) The government has the power to buy certain resources and sway public support during wartime situations. They can definitely encourage certain actions to be made by citizens. By doing so, they can free up resources for the military's use.

  15. 1.) to raise money i would organize parades and festivals. Furthermore I would spread propaganda through advertisement and media too lead Americans to support the war. To organize resources i would increase the food production and slightly limit the consumption of the people. To organize industries and labor women had to take over men parts and i would put immigrants as help workers in labor but only for a smaller wages than american citizen.
2.) I think government has the power to enter the economy in wartime situations even if america has capitalism. I think they need a government in wartime situations which can mobilize power and resources to support the war. The challenge between businesses is not really helpful in wartime situations

  16. 1)we will raise money by increasing taxes on everyday goods; the government owned factories will now make items needed for the warn; Americans will all need to help out in some way such as rationing their buying and using, so there will be more for the war.
    2) yes the government has the right to have power over the economy during wartime situations because they are protecting us so they deserve our help in return.

  17. 1) we will raise money by colletcitng taxes and having fund raisers.then we will create administrations to ration supplies for neccesary recources. then all factorys will work an hour lator on tuesdays so we will have more recources built.
    2) Yes they do because they are the government and even if we didnt want them to they would anyway.
